New Year's resolution
　ケイトリン先生からは以下のような感想をいただきました。

　For our January library after-school English activity, the students and I worked on our New Year`s Resolution.
　Taking inspiration from the actual `Wall` at the Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park in California. I though it would be fun to create our own `Wall` at Ose, thus creating a New Year`s Resolution Wall, where the students could write down their resolutions and see it every time they walked down the hallway, to help remind them of this goal. Kaneko sensei and I explained what a Resolution is to the students and how they should think of a goal they would like to achieve in the coming year.

　I was very impressed by what the students came up with, from wanting to be healthy to getting a job next year.And it was even more fun helping the teachers think of their own resolution goal.

　But what I enjoyed the best was seeing the Japanese students and teachers take this activity above and beyond what I could possibly imagine. They took my simple white paper with the words `New Year`s Resolution Wall` written on it and created a beautiful masterpiece that brought this simple activity to another level. I am truly grateful for the students who stay after school for this activity and the teachers who come to participate.



去年はどんな年だったかなあ、今年は何を目標にしようかなあ。


わからない単語を教わりながら、調べながら・・・


みんなで目標を書きました。これを壁に貼って完成です！

　昨年から,ALTのケイトリン先生を中心に放課後図書館で行っているlibrary activity。

1月16日（火）は今年初めての活動で,英語で新年の抱負を考えました。

The best part of school last year...
（去年学校生活で最高だったことは・・・）

If I could do one thing again, it would be...
（できることならもう１回・・・）という去年の振り返りから始まって,

This year, I can't wait to...
（今年は・・・が待ちきれない！）

My goals for this year...
（今年の目標は・・・）

と,まずは手元のプリントに沿って今年の目標を思い描きます。ケイトリン先生に単語を教わったり調べたりしながら,最終的には自分の目標を一言でまとめて模造紙に寄せ書きします。生徒も先生も一緒になって今年の目標を考え,英語でどんな表現が適切かを学び,模造紙を楽しく装飾して今回の活動は終了。模造紙は廊下に掲示して,誰でもいつでも見られるようにしました。

生徒たちの目標は
My new year's resolution is to study hard.
（一生懸命勉強する）

という日常的なものから

　My new year's resplution is to get into college to become a nursery school teacher.
（保育士になるための学校に入学する）

など自分の将来への決意まで様々。

　廊下を通る度に何度も自分の目標を確認しつつ,今年も楽しく過ごせる１年にしたいですね！
